New Season, New Challenges!

Last year turned out to be one of those years when loads of new recruits have appeared towards the end of the season, as if by magic. It takes a certain kind of person to want to travel the length and breadth of the country doing what we do, so it’s not that usual for this to happen.

An amazing photo by Charlotte Graham, taken at Birdoswald Roman Fort, 2018.

We have plenty of spare kit and costumes, and what we don’t have, we can make between us. It’s also an exciting time for us as a group, because more people means more living history. The arena shows form only a small but important part of our daily routine. We spend a lot of our time explaining and demonstrating various aspects of everyday life in Roman Britain. There are limits to what we can do which are down to how many people we have at an event, and also how much stuff we can bring to events. What you see at a show is only a small part of what we do: Everything we carry has a place and a purpose in our display, as we only have a certain number of vehicles and trailers for transportation. We also have to work within a realistic budget, so that our clients can afford to hire us for public events!
